Engineered Wood ($6.99):

Engineered wood refers to a floor which planks or strips are made up of layers of different woods, usually carrying a higher quality as the top layer. The advantage of this type of flooring is that the layers help the material against expanding and contracting caused by heat and humidity. The installation options include floating, glued down, stapled or nailed depending on the strip's thickness.

We use a top layer of 3/16 and up instead of the common 1/16 layers, this enables you to sand your floor without damaging the other layers and makes your floor more durable.

Engineered is cheaper than solid wood and it comes with a 25 year warranty.

Laminate ($3.20):

Laminate flooring's revolutionary technology has made it the most popular floor type in the market today. It has the look of real wood flooring, yet it is less expensive and maintenance free.

Laminate flooring is composed of four layers:

The surface layer of aluminum oxide provides high durability and protection against fade, wear and stain, depending on traffic.

The pattern layer is a photograph applied to a melamine laminate, providing the different types of wood textures and colors.

The core is a highly pressed mix of organic products, melamine, and silicone, depending on the product and manufacturer.

The backing is a paper or plastic layer to provide balance of the floor.

Laminate is installed as a floating floor with a layer of foam that is placed between the laminate and the subfloor. Pre-existing sub-floors could range from concrete and tile to vinyl and wood.

Bamboo ($6.49):

Bamboo is the most fashionable flooring product today. It is naturally beautiful, hard and strong making it a great choice for a durable, elegant floor.

Bamboo is not a wood, but a type of grass, with a cycle growth of just 5 years. However, it is comparable in strength to northern red oak, in hardness to maple and more stable by 50% less contraction and expansion.

Its rapid growth and abundance make it an environmental alternative to traditional wood floors.

For centuries, it has been widely used as a building material in Asia because it is very hard, strong and stable.

The durability of bamboo is surpassed by its beauty. It has a warm, neutral blond color with grains, growth patterns and joints.

CARPET ($1.25):

Carpet is the type of floor product most sold because of its comfort, softness and decorative quality. Carpet has the highest insulation properties of any other floor covering and serves as a noise reducer. The most common materials in carpets are nylon and polyester, which resists odors and is recommended for houses with pets. Both materials can be used in cut pile and Berber textures. There are other materials like polypropylene, for commercial use, and wool, which is the most elegant and softest of all materials, usually more expensive and for more specific jobs. Installation of carpets can be done glued down or with padding.

Textures and Patterns:

Cut pile (plush) is the most commonly used texture. This is a very fine cut pile with small yarn bundle. It usually comes in solid colors giving a very classy look to the room. This type of carpet will show its wear and tear so it is recommended for room with less traffic, like bedrooms and formal living rooms.

Berber is increasing its popularity today due to its various patterns to choose from and its durability for both, residential and commercial. It is a looped carpet and can come in solid colors as well as multicolor patterns. Berbers can be leveled loop, which creates an even texture, or multilevel loop, where the loops are of different sizes as well as heights creating a variety of design patterns.

MOLDINGS ($2.50):

For centuries, moldings have been used to highlight architectural design.  By simply adding moldings to your current formation, you add an attractive, artistic fashion. Moldings are also used to protect your walls.  Base moldings are very useful as buffers to protect the walls from vacuums, mops and brooms. Chair Rail moldings are a nice decorative approach to take to any wall, but they are also used for the protection of your walls from chair dents and nicks.

Lighted, finely finished crown moldings will transform your home into an elegant showcase in just a few short days.

MDF is a type of hardboard, which is made from wood fibers glued under heat and pressure.

Advantages:

There are a number of reasons why MDF may be used instead of plywood or chipboard. It is dense, flat, stiff, has no knots and is easily machined. Because it is made up of fine particles it does not have an easily recognizable surface grain. MDF can be painted to produce a smooth quality surface. Because MDF has no grain it can be cut, drilled, machined and filed without damaging the surface. MDF may be dowelled together and traditional woodwork joints may even be cut. MDF may be glued together with PVA wood glue. Oil, water-based paints and varnishes may be used on MDF. Veneers and laminates may also be used to finish MDF.
